Department head word

In the Department of Clinical Skills, we provide comprehensive training to ensure that physicians become highly skilled professionals, adept at patient communication and capable of handling patient interactions with professionalism and specialization.

Description

The department was established in the 2022-2023 academic year as one of the newly introduced scientific departments within the college. This establishment aligns with the decision of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research to standardize the curriculum across medical faculties. Clinical skills are taught to fourth-year students in the third phase of medical education.

Vision

We aim to achieve excellence and leadership both locally and globally in the field of medical education and training in clinical and soft skills. Our goal is to develop physicians who possess the competencies needed to build a strong professional profile, enabling them to compete effectively in the job market both locally and internationally.

Mission

Graduating physicians who possess the clinical and soft skills necessary to compete in both local and global job markets. This involves the ability to assess and develop their own professional persona, master clinical skills, and demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and effective teamwork.

Goals

  • Graduating Physicians with Competence: Preparing physicians who are capable of effectively managing both the health and psychological issues of patients with proficiency and professionalism. These physicians should be reliable in making sound decisions and taking appropriate actions for patient welfare while adhering to medical ethics and standards.
  • Training in Patient History and Clinical Skills: Training students in taking patient histories, performing clinical examinations, and conducting clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures within a safe environment for both students and patients.
  • Student-Centered Learning: Implementing a new strategy in medical education that places the student at the center of learning and training (Student-Centered Approach), incorporating interactive teaching methods and techniques (Interactive Learning).
  • Integrated Curriculum: Applying an integrated curriculum approach by introducing clinical skills in the early years of study. This method aims to make fundamental subjects more engaging and beneficial when applied in clinical skills centers.
  • Patient Safety: Integrating and implementing a patient safety curriculum as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Professionalism: Incorporating a professionalism curriculum as advised by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Personal Development: Enhancing student development by incorporating soft skills such as personality development, leadership, team building, communication skills, time management, stress management, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, decision-making, and workplace etiquette.
  • Continuous Skills Training: Providing ongoing training in clinical and soft skills from the first year to the fifth year, ensuring that these topics align with the theoretical subjects and materials covered by students during these years.
